Robert Mac is an award-winning stand-up comedian with more than 30 years of experience performing in comedy clubs, corporate settings, on cruise ships, and at festivals. The Grand Prize winner of Comedy Central’s national Laugh Riots competition, he connects familiar ideas in unexpected ways through carefully written wordplay and understated delivery. Robert Mac studied writing at the University of Arizona before discovering that getting people to laugh at his work could be a career.
His first open-mic appearance required a substitute. Too self-conscious to perform, Robert let a friend tell his jokes. The audience laughed. The following week, Robert took the microphone himself. Apparently, encouragement works especially well when someone else is getting your laughs.
More than 30 years later, his credits include the Grand Prize in Comedy Central’s national Laugh Riots competition and performances at Montreal’s Just For Laughs, the San Francisco Comedy Competition, and the Boston Comedy Festival.
He has not one, not three, but two Dry Bar Comedy specials: Know More Robert Mac and Back to Lake Titicaca. For Mac to School, he returned to his alma mater, Salpointe Catholic High School, to perform. This time, he told his own jokes.
Robert’s comedy rewards an audience that enjoys following a thought somewhere unexpected. Wordplay, misdirection, and returning details keep listeners involved right up to the punchline. His material is clean, his delivery understated, and there’s usually more going on than he lets on.
